British pop singer inks a deal with city's Western Glove Works

IT'S official. Posh is turning to the 'Peg for her new jeans collection.
Replica Monogram Dentelle HandbagsFriday afternoon, Winnipeg-based Western Glove Works confirmed it has inked a deal with fashion icon and British socialite Victoria Beckham to develop and distribute her debut women's denim collection.
The wife of soccer superstar David Beckham was rumoured to be in talks with the company after the pop singer, formerly known as Posh Spice, was spotted in the city last summer.
The president of the clothing manufacturing company, Bob Silver, said Beckham's dVb jeans collection -- part of the expanding international dVb brand empire, including perfume, handbags and sunglasses -- will be targeted at high-end buyers. The collection will include denim pants, skirts and shorts.
"We're delighted to have this association," said Silver. "We think her input is going to be terrifically valuable, and we're going to develop a brand that will be world-renowned."
Silver is also a co-owner of the Free Press.
The announcement was immediately picked up Dimmable LED Bulb GB-G60-8W by the international fashion press, with New York City-based industry bible Women's Wear Daily posting the deal on its website late Friday afternoon.
Western Glove Works is noted for its 1921 jeans, a brand that can retail for up to $650 per pair and is worn by celebrities like Teri Hatcher and Jennifer Lopez, among others.
Silver said the dVb jeans collection will also be priced for what he termed as "premium or luxury" markets.
"They'll be quite exclusive," said Silver.
The deal is another headline for the Beckhams, who received global coverage after they recently announced they'll be moving to Los Angeles this summer from Madrid, after David Beckham signed a $250-million contract to play for the L.A. Galaxy soccer club.
Victoria Beckham also received media attention for her friendship with tabloid favourite Katie Holmes, wife of movie star Tom Cruise. Holmes stars in a Victoria Beckham-styled fashion spread for the March 2007 issue of Harper's Bazaar.
The dVb denim collection will be found in a small group of retail stores in May. The line will then launch around the world in September.

"We certainly intend to be selling them in Europe as well as in North America, as well as some parts of Asia," said Silver. He said he didn't know yet how many pairs of jeans will be made for the collection's first season.
Posh was first snapped at the Richardson International Airport last June by a Free Press photographer. After two days in town, she departed the city wearing huge shades and towering black heels amidst a hub-bub of speculation -- and popping flashbulbs.
For the past six seasons, Victoria Beckham worked with American designer Rock & Republic to produce a jeans line called VB Rocks, but a Western Glove Works press release pointed out the deal ended with that company's current spring line.
